Our Mission
FranchiseOverview.com was created to give prospective franchisees access to transparent, verified franchise data. Every data point on our platform comes directly from official Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs) filed with state franchise regulators. We believe that anyone considering a franchise investment deserves access to the same financial data that regulators review.
Unlike other franchise directories that rely on self-reported data from franchisors, our platform extracts and verifies information from the legal documents that franchisors are required to file. This means the investment ranges, franchise fees, royalty rates, unit counts, and earnings data you see on our site are sourced from the same documents franchise attorneys review.
Our Data Methodology
Every franchise profile on FranchiseOverview.com is built from data extracted from official FDDs. Here is how we source and process this data:
1. FDD Collection
We collect Franchise Disclosure Documents from state franchise registration offices, including the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and the NASAA Electronic Filing Depository. These are public documents that franchisors are legally required to file when offering franchises in regulated states.
2. Data Extraction
Each FDD is processed to extract structured data from all 23 Items required by the FTC Franchise Rule. This includes the initial franchise fee (Item 5), ongoing fees and royalties (Item 6), estimated initial investment (Item 7), financial performance representations (Item 19), and unit count history (Item 20).
3. Verification
Extracted data is cross-referenced against the original FDD documents. Every profile page links back to the source FDD so users can verify any data point themselves. We display the FDD year prominently so users know the recency of the data.
4. Profile Generation
Each franchise profile is built automatically from the extracted data, including an About section, cost and fee breakdown, Item 19 earnings data (when disclosed), litigation history from Item 3, system growth trends from Item 20, and dynamically generated FAQ content.
